In the partnership between Henkel and Nordson, Nordson’s expertise in equipment engineering and dispensing technology and our own leading ability in formulating adhesives join together to meet the needs of the packaging industry. The first fruits of this partnership is the Freedom™ system from Nordson – seen here at a customer’s bottling plant in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.

The compact design of the Freedom™ system optimizes the process:
The new dispensing system stands next to the gluing station, and the adhesive required for packaging is melted only as it is needed. The hoses of the new system have been reduced to around 50 centimeters, compared to several meters for conventional filling equipment. This results in energy savings of up to 30 percent.

Henkel developed three certified adhesives for the Freedom™ system under the brand name Technomelt. They can be precision-applied as needed directly on the production line.

The hotmelt pellets are drawn from the blue containers and heated – just before they are applied to the packaging in liquid form. For the customer, this means reliable processes, greater efficiency, and thus lower cost.

Hotmelts – sometimes called hot seal adhesives or hot glue – are solvent-free and remain solid at room temperature. They are heated prior to application to the sealing area and produce the bond upon cooling. This type of adhesive is especially well-suited to fully automated packaging systems.
